History of ICBL

The International Conference on Blended Learning (ICBL) is an annual international conference with the main focus on blended learning – an integration of the traditional learning with innovative means, such as e-learning and open online learning, in order to create a new learning environment to enhance learning effectiveness and enrich learning experience. The purpose is to bring together researchers and developers from education and computer science to advance the research of blended learning.

ICBL together with its predecessors ICHL had attracted hundreds of delegates from many countries and regions, including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, UK, Canada, and USA. Previous ICHL and ICBL conferences are highlighted below.


The 1st International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2008) was held on 13-15 August 2008 at the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 5169) by Springer.

The 2nd International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2009) was held on 25-27 August 2009 at the University of Macau, Macau. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 5685) by Springer.

The 3rd International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2010) was held on 16-18 August 2010 at the Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 6248) by Springer.

The 4th International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2011) was held on 10-12 August 2011 at HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Community College, Hong Kong, China. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 6837) by Springer.
